Simmering Republicans

David Broder relates the story of simmering Republicans who do not like how the religious right have taken over the party. They dislike the idea of Nancy Pelosi becoming speaker, so even though they may be likely pickings for the Democratic Party, they refuse to switch and may sit out this election.

Catholic Democrats are in the same boat, as well as recently Democratic Catholics who switched over to the GOP because they were taken in by the Republican attempts to enact a partial birth abortion ban and the Clinton vetoes of the same.

Neither of these groups is comfortable in the party of George W. Bush and Jerry Falwell. This is the consitutuency that a Christian Libertarian Party hopes to attract. For those who believe that there is a nexus between freedom and compassion, dive on in - the water is fine.

Creating a Wave for Impeachment

The deadline is quickly passing in most states to create a new party for the mid-term elections. Perhaps the frustration level is just not great enough as yet. I think many are hoping for the Democrats to win the House and possibly the Senate this year. If that were enough to avoid two years of George Bush I would be pleased. However, I do not believe it is, despite what Thomas Mann says in Sunday's Washington Post (For Democrats, Wave is Building).

In the House, the way redistricting has occurred will keep most incumbants in office. The author shouldn't be so dismissive of the gerrymander argument, or of the Republican's ability to demagog gay marriage, partial birth abortion and stem cell research. Unless the Democrats explain these issues to the voters in a way that does not offend them, the wave will break before it gets to the shore.

If major change does not happen in the House, few Republican Senators will switch to a new centrist party and stand against the President and Vice President in an impeachment trial. Until they do, impeachment is a non-starter.

So America, this is your last chance in '06. Join now or endure two more years of war in Iraq and domestic spying at home.

Call for Candidates

The Christian Libertarian Party is looking for candidates.

If you are in the mushy middle on abortion, consider running with us.

If you believe in paying off the national debt, consider running with us.

If you believe in ending the income tax on the wealthy after (and only after) the national debt is paid, consider running with us.

If you believe in ending the income tax for everyone else immediately, consider running with us.

If you believe in creating a living wage by setting up a tax credit for employers to pay one, consider running with us.

If you believe in going from public Social Security to the real security of employee-ownership (with federal insurance to protect pension assets), consider running with us.

If you believe in ending our nation's drug laws while providing the resources for the treatment of drug addiction and mental illness through religiously based programs, consider running with us.

If you believe that private schools do a better job than public schools and that they should recieve public funds, consider running with us.

If you believe that the best way to help children succeed is to provide literacy through their parents through religiously operated remedial schools, consider running with us.

If you believe in expanding democracy in all areas of life, from the workplace to the church to the school, consider running with us.

If you are a likely vote-getter, which means you are a war veteran, a sports hero, an attorney or physician, drop me a line today. If we want to get rid of Cheaney-Bush, now is the time.

Ending the Ambiguity About Torture

In The Washington Post, Dan Froomkin rights about More Ambiguity About Torture. The only way to end this ambiguity is to impeach Bush and Cheney, (Cheney first). The only way to do that is to create a party which cuts at the heart of GOP success in redistricting by attacking its base and combining discontent over the war and Iraq with discontent over the Democrats over abortion. There are just some people who will never vote Democrat again. This new party is for them. Then we can get a new President who will end torture, take decisive action in Afghanistan and Pakistan to annihilate the Taliban and Al Queda (this President won't since he is committed to Iraq and can't or won't redirect the troops) and allow the International Red Cross into GITMO.
